These get taught throughout the quarter, but not all are taught at the same time. Information will be shared here as we cover the concepts for each area.
SS and Science information will now be covered in the English/Language Arts sections. This will avoid me having to repeat much of the information in two different sections since they are integrated into our ELA block.

Students in health learned what safety precautions to take when presented with different scenarios, such as a stranger knocking on the door if you are home alone. We also talked about what precautions to take to stay safe when riding the bus, taking medicines, and many more. This is a great topic to cover before the holidays when children will be home for extended periods of time.

Science
In science this week we studied the rock cycle and learned how each type of rock (metamorphic, sedimentary, and igneous) is formed.
Social Studies
We have been studying the different regions where Native Americans lived, but so far our main focus has been on the Eastern Woodland Native Americans. We learned what their homes were like, how their villages were set up, how they provided themselves with food and clothes, and talked about their spiritual beliefs.

Social Studies
This week we started getting into the SS curriculum. We learned why Maryland could be considered a Mini America, and learned the difference between human made features and natural features. We also learned what a peninsula is, where the Delmarva peninsula is, and how it got it's name.
Science
This week we finished up talking about the Earth's atmosphere and discussed how the atmosphere is like a blanket. We also discussed why the atmosphere is important to living things on Earth.

Science
This week in science we finished up some research on the planets, then talked about the Earth's Structure and Atmosphere.

Science
This week we talked about the planets and went outside to see how the planets distances differ from one to another in relation to the sun and each other. The students then started researching a planet that was assigned to them to better understand the atmosphere, weather/climate, distance from the sun, availability of water, rotation, and revolution. The students should be able to come home this weekend and tell you information about their assigned planet. We also discussed the 5 types of matter, but focused mainly on the 3 most commonly known ones (solid, liquid, and gas). The following are the links used to discuss matter.

Social Studies
This week we discussed the Preamble to the Constitution for Constitution Day. We looked at each piece and discussed what it meant and why it is important for us as a country.
Nutrition
This week we talked about how and why the body uses and needs carbohydrates, fats, minerals, vitamins, and water. This work was done while band students were out, but the band students will get a chance to catch up with us in health.

We have discussed how hurricanes form and die which will be part of a science grade, and we also tracked hurricanes base on their latitude and longitude points, so this will be a social studies grade. The goal is to start designating Friday's as a Science Day, so the 2 and a half hour block in the morning before related arts on Friday's will be designated for science experiments and learning science concepts. Throughout the week, so of the reading may relate to gaining background knowledge in order to better understand those experiments.
